We’re thrilled to announce that we’re welcoming the Nikon Z6 and Z7 to our lineup of supported cameras! These are the first new Nikon cameras we’ve been able to support for a while, and we’re excited to have them back!

Right now we support the Z6 and Z7 in their “Connect to Smartphone” modes. Within Cascable, these cameras are fully featured — from using our Shutter Robot automation tools (including focus bracketing) to accessing RAW images (requires iOS 12.1 or higher), these cameras work wonderfully.

What about other SnapBridge cameras?

UPDATE: In April and May 2019, Nikon released firmware updates that enable Wi-Fi Mode for the D5600, D7500, D500, and D850. As of version 4.0 (released May 28th, 2019), Cascable is fully compatible with these updated cameras!

As many Nikon users have noticed, we have a bit of a “hole” in our list of supported cameras. Nikon cameras introduced between 2016 and mid-2018 keep their WiFi connectivity behind the Bluetooth features of SnapBridge, in a manner that means we’re not able to support them without assistance from Nikon (which they have not been forthcoming with).

Affected models include: D3400, D3500, D5600, D7500, D500, and D850.

The Z6 and Z7 (and hopefully future models) include a feature called “Wi-Fi Mode” which lets the user turn on WiFi themselves. We’re hoping that Nikon will introduce the Wi-Fi Mode feature to their older cameras via a firmware update — at which point we’ll be able to support them. You can check which cameras support Wi-Fi Mode (and are able to be used with Cascable) on Nikon’s SnapBridge support site.
