Camera Compatibility

• Added support for the Sony α7R V, α7C R, α7C II, and α6700.

• Added support for encrypted connections to newer Sony cameras, including those that had the feature added via firmware update such as the α7 IV’s firmware 2.0. Cascable will prompt for a username and password upon connection to such cameras, and remember those details for future connections.

• Added support for the Nikon Z f.

Improvements

• Added support for tap-to-focus and live view zoom on newer Sony cameras.

• The live view zoom experience has been improved for Canon, Nikon, and Sony cameras. Where available, you can pick from multiple zoom levels and pan around the zoomed-in image (Nikon cameras don’t support panning while zoomed in, but do support multiple zoom levels).

Bug Fixes

• Rating and protected status is now correctly updated in Cascable when changing them on-body on newer Canon models.

• Fixed a bug where live view zoom wouldn’t be available for newer Nikon Z-series cameras.

• Added mitigations to hopefully handle situations where previews of Nikon RAW images would be very low resolution, and where JPEG transfers from the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV would be truncated. We’ve been unable to reproduce these issues with our own cameras — if this still happens to you, please contact customer support.

iPadOS 16: Stage Manager, multiple windows, keyboard shortcuts, and more!

• Full support for Stage Manager in iPadOS 16 — resize Cascable to whatever size you like, and put it alongside other apps in your own preferred workflow.

• Added the ability to create more than one Cascable window — edit Recipes alongside the remote control, keep an eye on your storage links as you shoot… Cascable is now as flexible as you need!

• Additionally, you can create a dedicated image preview window, letting you keep the last previewed image around for reference when setting up your next shot.

• Added keyboard shortcuts to a number of places throughout the app. For more information, see our iPad Keyboard Shortcut Reference page.

• Added a customisable main toolbar.

Version 6.2

Greatly Expanded Support for Sony Cameras

This update hugely expands our compatibility with Sony cameras, both by adding USB support for cameras cameras we already supported, and by adding WiFi and USB support for a large number of previously unsupported cameras.

As of version 6.2, Cascable is the most flexible tool on the market for working with your Sony camera — it supports the Smart Remote Control, Ctrl w/Smartphone, PC Remote (WiFi), and PC Remote (USB) connection methods on most Sony cameras on the market. For details, see our dedicated blog post on the update.

• Added support for the OM System OM-1.

• Added support for the Nikon Z9.

Other Changes

• The “Change Exposure Setting” block in Recipes will attempt to wait until the new value is reflected by the camera before moving on. This should do nothing but make Recipes with setting changes more reliable, but if you have Recipes with very tight timings you should double-check them for correct behaviour after this update.

• The app’s settings UI has been revamped with a more modern look and feel.

USB Tethering and Remote Control for Nikon Cameras

Cascable now has full-featured USB tethering (for cameras that support it), remote control, automation, and image import for Nikon DSLR and Z-series mirrorless cameras when running on iOS/iPadOS 15.0 or higher. This works with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices.

Other Improvements

• Added live view zooming for newer Nikon cameras (notably the Z-series of cameras).

• Added a “Focus Geometry” setting which allows you to turn off displaying the camera’s focus rectangles.

• Added support for iOS 15 and iPhone 13 family of devices.

Bug Fixes

• Fixed a number of problems caused by iOS 15, including the volume button shutter not working.

• Fixed a bug that could cause the EOS M5 and EOS M6 Mark II to not correctly start live view.

• Fixed a bug where certain Canon cameras would be extremely sluggish to respond to events when connected via USB on iOS.

Revamped Remote Control

Cascable 6.0 includes a completely revamped remote control:

• Focuses on clarity and ease-of-use with layouts optimised for every device size and orientation from the smallest iPhone to the largest iPad.

• iPhone users can now see all of the camera’s exposure settings at-a-glance.

• Added the “Quick Menu” that shows all of the available options and settings in a clear and instructive way.

• Added the vertical control layout to iPad, making sure that your camera’s live view image is as large and clear as it can be at all times. Both iPhone and iPad users can choose to have the vertical controls on the left or right side of the screen.

Revamped Camera Connection

Cascable 6.0 has completely rebuilt how camera connection works for an easier and more reliable experience:

• Detailed, interactive guide that walks you through the options on how to connect your camera.

• On supported models, directly connect by entering the camera’s IP address.

• Your connection details are saved for one-tap connection next time.

Support for Phase One IQ4

Cascable now supports Phase One IQ4 digital backs when paired with the XF and XT camera systems. For the first time, you can shoot and work with the up to 150MP IIQ RAW images from wherever you are with using iOS device!

And, thanks to a special collaboration with Phase One, users of IQ4 digital backs will get Cascable’s Pro features for free!

New Icons

Cascable has a fresh new icon and — as an additional perk for Pro users — a few extra optional icons for you to customise your homescreen a little more.

Greatly Expanded Storage Capabilities

• Adds support for working directly with photos stored on cameras connected to the iOS device via USB.

• Adds support for working directly with photos stored on external storage devices, such as USB flash drives, SSDs, and hard drives. Power-hungry devices such as hard drives may require a powered USB hub.

• Adds support for working directly with photos stored outside the Cascable app. Any writeable storage location accessible via the Files app is supported, including cloud storage providers.

Other New Features

• Photos can now be filtered by file type, by date, and by searching keywords and other metadata.

• Storage Links now work in between sessions, and can be configured to copy JPEG, RAW, or all photos.

• The Select All button has returned from its long-overrunning absence.

• For cameras the support it, the focus position can be adjusted towards or away from the camera directly from within the Remote Control section.

• Added a “Perform Autofocus” block to Receipes.

• When connecting to a camera that doesn’t support remote control features, Cascable will now automatically switch to the Photos section rather than sitting there at a useless “Not Supported” screen.

Cascable 4.0 is one of the largest updates in Cascable’s history, and completely revamps the photo management tools for a significantly improved workflow.

Automatic importing, external storage with SanDisk iXpand, better wireless tethering, support for image ratings, and much much more await! You can read a discussion on our 4.0 release over on our blog.

Greatly Improved Wireless Tethering Experience

For cameras that support wireless tethering in Cascable, the experience is much faster and smoother. New images appear instantly, and Photo Review now works throughout the app.

Support for external screens has also improved — connecting your iPhone or iPad to a display via cable or AirPlay instantly converts it into a wireless monitor for your images as you shoot!

Automatic Image Importing with Storage Links

Cascable’s new “Storage Links” allow you to automatically copy images from your camera to a chosen destination as they become available.

For cameras that support wireless tethering, this means hands-free, instant importing!

Support for External Storage with SanDisk iXpand

Cascable now supports the SanDisk iXpand USB storage drive for added flexibility and storage options. Whether your iPhone is full, you want to quickly hand off images to someone else, or you just want to have a backup of your images for safekeeping, simply connect your SanDisk iXpand drive and it’ll appear right in Cascable.

Additionally, using storage links, you can link your iXpand to Cascable’s storage for instant and automatic backups, or even directly to your camera to automatically copy images from your camera to external storage!

View and Apply Image Ratings

View on-camera image ratings (where supported by the camera), and apply IPTC ratings to images once they’re inside Cascable.

Massively Improved Flexibility

Cascable is now more flexible — customise your layout between an image-dense grid or a list that includes image metadata, and adjust thumbnail size, sort order, and more! On iPad, choose between split or single screen for easy copying and management between multiple sources or more photos onscreen.

Other Changes

• Exporting RAW images to other applications is now more reliable.

• The Files app has been reworked to be faster, better support RAW images, and for JPEG images now includes Geotags and ratings applied in the app.

• The in-app camera compatibility guide now has much more information about each camera.

• The viewfinder image in Remote Control can now be flipped horizontally (“Selfie Mode”).

• Confirmed compatibility with Nikon cameras recently opened up by firmware updates, including the D500, D5600, D7500, and D850.

• Fixed a problem that could cause JPEG previews to load from Olympus cameras.

• Thumbnails from Nikon cameras are now oriented correctly.

• The Sharp Stars calculation now supports 1” sensor sizes.

• Cascable’s Files app integration is now named “Cascable Photos” to make it clear that other things can’t be stored there.

• The Apple Watch app no longer fails to trigger a shot if the watch screen turns off during a self-timer.

Important: Cascable 3.6 will be the last feature update to support iOS 10 — future feature updates will require iOS 11 or higher. If you stay on iOS 10, your purchased Pro features will continue to work just as before, but you will no longer receive updates.

Recipes Improvements

• Added the Burst Shots block, allowing Recipes to take burst exposures.

• Added the Move Focus block, allowing Recipes to directly manipulate focus on supported cameras (for performing focus stacking, for example). Note: Due to camera limitations, this is currently only supported on Canon and Nikon cameras.

• Added the Wait For Input block, allowing Recipes to wait for input before continuing. Input can be provided via on-screen buttons, a connected keyboard, or by a Bluetooth accessory.

• Added a Skip autofocus if able setting to all Take Shot blocks (single, bulb, and burst).

• When executing Recipes, wait blocks inside repeat blocks will be skipped after the last action of the recipe is executed.

Other New Features

• Preview images from the Photo Review feature can now be saved into Cascable’s photo library, including a “Save Automatically” option in Photo Review settings.

• You can now choose a custom color for Focus Peaking highlights in Focus Peaking settings.

• Added support for iOS 12 and the new iPhone devices launched in September 2018.

Introducing Shutter Robot Recipes! Recipes are an extension to our Shutter Robot feature that allow you to automate your camera in exactly the way you want. Using the Recipes Editor, you assemble a series of camera setting adjustments and shutter triggers together in whichever way you’d like. Once you’ve constructed the perfect recipe, Cascable’s Shutter Robot can run it against any camera that supports the features the recipe uses.

The second major update to Cascable is here, and it’s a big one! Version 3.0 has a whole host of new features and improvements throughout the app.

New Cameras

• Cascable 3.0 adds support for nearly 50 cameras from Fujifilm and Panasonic, on top of the Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and Sony models already supported. Everyone gets the same UI and rich feature set, with a couple of minor exceptions. For more information, see the Camera Compatibility page.

Powerful Geotagging Features

• Cascable 3.0 adds a powerful geotagging features! View your photos on a beautiful map, and effortlessly drag and drop photos onto the map to tag them. If you’re going out and about, Cascable can record your location over time and automatically tag the photos you take in the same trip with a few taps!

Improvements to Remote Control

• On Canon and Nikon cameras, you can zoom the viewfinder image to get a much closer view and really nail that focus.

• On Nikon, Olympus and some Canon cameras, you can sync the camera’s clock with your iOS device’s clock each time you connect.

With Cascable 3.0, we’ve discontinued the ability to purchase individual feature packs in favour of a simpler experience. If you don’t want to jump right into a full purchase, we now offer two subscription options on top of our one-time purchase that lets you use all of Cascable’s Pro features for a reduced outlay. Both subscriptions have free trials available to make it even easier to see what Cascable has to offer.

If you’ve purchased any feature packs in a previous version of Cascable, they’ll continue to work in Cascable 3.0 and you’ll be able to upgrade to Cascable at a discounted rate, or completely free if you previously purchased a Full Unlock.

Major New Feature: Greatly Improved RAW Display

iOS 10 brings with it greatly improved RAW support, which means Cascable gets to join in the fun! If you’re running a modern iOS device with iOS 10, Cascable now displays supported RAW files with an increased color depth and quality, which looks great on all devices but it really shines on devices supporting the Display P3 extended color gamut like the 9.7” iPad Pro!

Major New Feature: Quick Proof

Introducing a new feature we’re really excited about: Quick Proof! With Quick Proof, you can apply adjustments to your images within Cascable for exporting and sharing. Currently, Cascable has the following adjustments: Exposure, Highlight and Shadow recovery, White Balance, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpen and Vignette. Quick Proof also works with our new RAW renderer, meaning you have deep color, full resolution RAW editing right on your iOS device! We’re really looking forward to seeing what sort of mobile workflows this feature unlocks for our users. Quick Proof requires iOS 10 and a modern iOS device - iPhone 6 or iPad Air 2 or higher. Other New Features

• The shutter control on the Apple Watch app now works like it does in the main app - slide to focus and shoot! Please note that the Apple Watch app now requires watchOS 3.

• Shutter Robot’s Bulb Timer module has two new settings, allowing you to configure the number of shots taken and the time between each shot. This allows you to take repeating bulb exposures over a very long period of time.

• When you’re in ‘Manual’ or ‘Bulb’ exposure modes, the Exposure Compensation display switches to display the reading of the camera’s built-in light meter on supported cameras (everything but Sony, sorry!).

• If further photos are taken while Photo Review is visible, the new photos will be loaded and displayed in the Photo Review screen, and the automatic dismissal timer (if any) will be reset.

• When previewing photos from your camera in the Photo Management section of Cascable, the previews are cached for faster performance when previewing the shots subsequent times.

• Both the remote photo preview and local photo viewer screens have had a delete button added to allow you to delete photos from your camera or iOS device quickly.

• Auto exposure results (when available) are now displayed on iPhone, and exposure settings now include their units.

• When you launch the app and before you connect to your camera, the experience is a little friendlier.

• Act as an intervalometer for taking time lapse sequences.
• Perform autoexposure bracketing (AEB).
• In Bulb mode, hold the shutter open for any amount of time — great for astrophotography.
• Be a straightforward self-timer.

You can configure every aspect of Shutter Robot to get exactly the results you need.

Other Improvements to Remote Control

Remote control has been spruced up a bit, and has the following new features:

• Focus peaking! When your camera is set to manual focus, you can enable focus peaking to help with your focusing.

• Grid configuration! The grid can now be customised to your liking.

• Locking shutter! Tap the shutter control with two fingers to lock it open. Great for bulb photography. Tap again to unlock.

• Viewfinder shutoff! On supported cameras, you can disable the viewfinder image completely. This doesn’t sound very exciting, but it helps when working with photographs that have critical timing and it saves battery life to boot.

Improvements to File Handling

Working with files on your camera is much more powerful:

• Batch selection! Select one or more files on your camera and delete or download them all at once.

• Quick Select! Tap “Quick Select” and you can quickly select all, none, or some of your files. Want to copy all of your RAW files taken in past week? You can do this is a few taps!

Cascable tries really hard to make sure you don’t delete files from your camera by mistake. However, if you really want it to, it will delete every single photo from your camera. Please delete responsibly!

Minor Fixes and Additions

• Saving photos to your device’s Camera Roll now works correctly if you try to save more than 2-3 photos at once, and allows you to cancel the save operation mid-flight.

• Cascable now correctly deals with cameras set to expose in half-stops rather than the default of exposing in thirds.

• Files mode now knows when files are protected and won’t allow you to delete them.

• Files mode no longer gets confused when it encounters different photos with the same file name. This problem was most likely to affect people with cameras set to “Auto Reset” file names when the camera’s storage was reformatted.

• Files mode will no longer display files sizes and spaces in KB when it shouldn’t.

• Files mode will no longer allow you to delete a file while it’s being copied to your device.
